Microsoft to donate to charity for every Windows Live Messenger IM session created

Microsoft announced today in their Microsoft at a Glance monthly newsletter the beginning of a program that will donate funds to notable charities for every IM session started using Microsoft Live Messenger.

What's interesting about this program is that MS has not set a cap on funding. The more we IM, the more money goes to our favorite charities. With charity spending down nationwide, this is an excellent way to help out a friend in need.

You know, now that I think of it a little more. I wonder if there's a way to script automatic IM session initiations... Is is really hacking if we're doing it for a good cause? Hmmm...

Click below for the charities involved and the link to sign up.

The charities you can direct Microsoft to send money to for this program are:

The American Red Cross
Boys and Girls Club of America
The National AIDS Fund
The MS Society
NineMillion.org
The Sierra Club
StopGlobalWarming.org
Susan C. Komen for the Cure
UNICEF

Please donate early and donate often!
