Would you Buy an Online Backup Service from Symantec?

Symantec announced late last week a new "Software as a Service" platform called Symantec Protection Network. The service will allow for web browser-based backups to occur over a company's connection to the Internet to the Symantec data warehouse.

The service is designed with the SMB and mid-market business in mind. But, will they go for it? Obviously, the concept of moving all your precious business data over the commodity Internet is one thing, but...

there is plenty of encryption and security tools out there now that can securely get that data from source to destination. The biggest issue, at least as I see it, is in the typical SMB's connection to the Internet -- they're not often all that fast. Most of the SMB's I work with run with slow Internet connections that can already barely handle the load of daily traffic.

I guess time will tell. What are your opinions about the service? Would you use it?
