LogIn Consultants Releases SoftGrid Client ADM File

Need to customize your SoftGrid client behavior and want to do it globally using Group Policy? All this gets much easier with LogIn Consultants' recently released SoftGrid Client Configuration ADM file. If you're familiar with ADM files, they are excellent ways to customize Group Policy on clients in your Windows domain.

The problem with many custom ADM files is in creating them. ADM files modify the registry. So, to create them you need to know what registry keys need to be modified to accomplish the task.

I downloaded the file and dug into it to find out what it does. This particular ADM file will help centrally control the following items...

How many times to retry an HTTP transaction before giving up.

How many times to retry an RTSP transaction before giving up.

How many times to try to reestablish a dropped session.

How long to wait between tries to reestablish a dropped session, in seconds.

Drive where SoftGrid file system will be mounted.

Location of file system cache file.

Maximum size of file system cache file.

SFTTray will write to this log when apps launch, shut down, fail to launch, and enter and exit disconnected mode.

This setting can be used to change the log file location and controls which messages are written to the log.

Default protocol to use (TCP vs SSL). Default is to allow non-secure connections. To use secure connections you need to obtain TLS certificates for all you SoftGrid servers.

DCC Seamless Initial Timeout : Controls which messages are written to the log. DCC Seamless Shutdown Timeout : In a seamless session, time in seconds that the DCC (Desktop Configuration Control) process will remain open after the last application closes.

Configures the various disconnected mode settings.

Tell the server whether we are connecting over a modem or LAN so it can optimize stream rate.

This settings configures the possibility to allow or dissallow administrators to remotely manage the SoftGrid client through MMC.

Configures the default path to create minidumps when exceptions occur and the maximum size in Mb of which the total space used by the minidumps created.

Whichever hostname you enter here, within the SoftGrid client it will be known as SGServer. It will offcourse use the entered SoftGrid Host.

Configures the behaviour of the SoftGrid System Tray icon.

Path where the SoftGrid Client stores user specific data. Can include environment variables.

Note that this is set once per machine, not per user, so it's best to include a variable that makes it per-user.

Configures the length of time the SoftGrid System Tray displays a succesfull or failed application launch.

The Permissions Settings allows you to enable and disable some actions for non-administrative users. These settings do not apply to Administrators.
